Laudato Si'

We have been learning about the letter that Pope Francis has sent to the world/ Laudato Si'.

The earth is a gift from God and it belongs to everyone. It is full of wonder and beauty. Our common home has been hurt and has been mistreated. We have been polluting the waters and the air by riding in cars, using spray cans, throwing rubbish and animal waste in the waters and cleaning products that get washed down the drain. The earth has been mistreated by cutting down most of the planets trees. We have treated the earth like it has unlimited supplies. We have taken more of our fair share.

We must care for the environment.

This week, we have been doing explanation writing about the environment.

Text: We must care for the environment.

Firstly we are a throw-away culture. What do you do when you have old shoes that you cannot fit anymore? We throw them away. We throw them away but where do they go when we throw them away?

Secondly we are polluting the water with dangerous liquids like fertilizer, chlorine, and cleaning products. In other countries, water is already becoming undrinkable. Countries like Africa, Cambodia, and India.

Lastly the air. The air is getting polluted with gases from spray cans, old refrigerators, old microwaves and air conditioners. These gases are called Chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs for short. CfCs harms the Ozone layer that protects us from the Sun’s Ultraviolet rays or Uv rays. Some countries around the world are starting to have droughts and famines.

If we start to care for the world now then we will have future but  if not, where would that leave us and our common home?
