Day 1: 100% PURE New Zealand Activity 1

Day 1: Activity 1 - Winter Learning Journey (100% Pure New Zealand)

Activity 1:  Go to the Tourism New Zealand website and click on the ‘Facts - New Zealand People’ tab. Read about the people of New Zealand and then choose three interesting facts to post on your blog. The facts must be written in your own words. Do not simply copy and paste the facts from the website☺.

Three facts about the New Zealand People:
1. There are 4.4 million New Zealander's living in New Zealand. 69% of them are Europeans, 14.6% are Maori, 9.2% is Asian, and lastly, 6.9% is non-Maori and Pacific Islander.

2. Over 400 years before Christopher Colombus and the whole of Europe who was afraid that they were going to plummet off the edge of the world, Maori's travelled thousands of miles across the immeasurable Pacific ocean in their small canoe-like boats and became the first settlers of Aotearoa. Even til this day, Maori culture is the main part of New Zealand's National Identity.

3.  New Zealand's  European settlers were very brave and rough and also independent. before they started to set up farms and settlements, they had to clear the land. Usually, this was a dangerous and risky activity to do. The environment and exposure around them forced them to become strong and multi-skilled.

Welcome back to the holiday blogging programme. It is so great to have you blogging with us again this time! I hope that you will learn a lot about New Zealand over the next few weeks. I can see that you've already learned a bit about the population of New York City. It is true that city size varies hugely. At the moment the most populated (or 'populous') city in the world is Tokyo, Japan. Approximately 38 million people live in the one city. Isn't that amazing?!

I hope that you will continue to learn and to share your learning with us over the coming weeks. I can't wait to see what you will discover next...

    Cheers!

    Rachel
